Green tea is a star beverage in herbal teas, and one of the most highly praised in the world. It is mostly consumed in Asian countries, where it has an important social and family value: it means well-being, harmony, beauty, serenity and becomes a ritual. But it also has an important health benefit, primarily due to its antioxidant and weight-loss properties. The responsible substances that contribute to these properties are catechins, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG

).

Drinking infusions of this plant provides hydration, has a diuretic effect and helps us to have a clear mind. It has a sweet and astringent flavor, and can be combined with other plants such as cinnamon, lemon or ginger that make this drink a moment of peace and harmony. But, if what we are looking for are the healthy properties of green tea, can we obtain them by drinking infusions of this plant? The answer is no, at least to its full potential. Lets see why.

The nutritional properties of infusions depend on their origin, collection, conservation and even the final preparation of the infusion. Green tea should be made with the young, whole leaves of the Camellia sinensis (L.) plant Kuntze. Old, crushed leaves should not be used, as they rust more quickly and lose their properties. The collected leaves should be kept in a cool place and in hermetically sealed containers to avoid moisture. Despite the wide variety of green tea that currently exists on the market, it is difficult to get one that has been made with these procedures at an affordable price.

And as for the way to prepare the drink, we must infuse it for 5-10 minutes to obtain the highest amount of catechins, which also have low absorption in our body. The problem with infusing it for so long is that the tea is less aromatic and harsher, just the opposite of what is considered by those who taste and savor this infusion. On the other hand, tea contains caffeine and caffeine, which can cause tachycardia and insomnia in some people, and people with hypertension, heart disease and/or pregnant women should not consume it. Last but not least, the concentration and absorption of catechins is key to achieving the desired effects in our body. With infusions it is difficult to achieve a high and easily absorbable concentration, so we will not achieve the best results.

Therefore, drinking green tea infusions has its social, well-being and serenity benefits, but if we want to obtain all the potential properties of green tea substances to help us lose weight, we must opt for a dietary supplement made with a select tea plant, with appropriate collection and preservation techniques, and with a certain concentration of catechins with improved absorption. At 100% Natural we have CamelliaSelect, a green tea extract that has a technology known as Phytosome® Technology (Fitosome), which improves the absorption and effectiveness of catechins by binding them to phospholipids (extracted from sunflower). In addition, it is a decaffeinated extract, so it can also be taken at night without causing alterations to the nervous system. It is also standardized, that is, it has a certain concentration of catechins, which assures us of the efficacy and stability of the product to contribute to weight loss
