In spring, changes in temperature are common in our latitude, one day it dawns raining and the next day a bright sun dazzles us. These changes can affect our defenses and, if we dont have them in good condition, we can suffer their consequences through a cold or cold. In addition, we cannot forget the continuous external aggressions of pathogens (fungi, viruses and bacteria) that can put our immune system to the test
.
Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) is one of the 13 essential vitamins needed for the body to function properly. This vitamin cannot be synthesized by the body, so it must be obtained through the diet. It is an important water-soluble (water-soluble) antioxidant that plays an important role in our immune system, supporting its response and providing antioxidant protection against reactive oxygen species. In addition, it helps reduce tiredness and fatigue, something common when we are cold. On the other hand, vitamin C also helps iron absorption and collagen production, so it is involved in skin repair processes and wound healing, as well as gums, teeth and cartilage. Finally, it contributes to normal psychological functioning.
Natural or synthetic
Vitamin C from food has a very good bioavailability, that is, a large part of the vitamin C we eat is able to pass into the blood and be distributed throughout all the tissues of the body where it is needed. This may be because the micronutrients in food are not consumed in isolation but accompanied by other nutrients that interact with them, favoring their absorption or that enhance their effectiveness, such as flavonoids, a group of compounds found in plants. All fruits and vegetables contain some amount of vitamin C, however, cooking food or storing it for a long period of time can reduce vitamin C content. That is why, although a person can apparently eat in a balanced way, especially in times or circumstances of increased requirements, they may not meet their needs with the diet, so it may be necessary to support them with food supplements containing vitamin C. Older adults, in general, have a certain vitamin C deficiency due to poor dietary habits
and assimilation problems.
Vitamin C dietary supplements are commercially available in several forms, whose objective is to improve the bioavailability of vitamin C and to ensure that as much as possible reaches the bodys cells. The main forms are: L-ascorbic acid, calcium ascorbate, ascorbic carbonate, ascorbic palmitate and Ester-C (calcium dehydroascorbate threonate). There are few scientific studies that show that these forms improve the absorption of vitamin C, and that is why current research is moving towards finding ways that are better absorbed and, therefore, that allow greater
health benefits.
PureWay-C ®, a new concept for greater absorption
All the membranes of our cells are made up of fatty molecules, called phospholipids, and they are an important barrier that regulates cell function. Phospholipids are important to cell structure because they help maintain cell stability and integrity. We can consider phospholipids as the most important bricks to properly build
a house.
Through this concept, a form of natural vitamin C (from citrus fruits) associated with lipids has been developed to improve its absorption, since the human body recognizes these lipids as nutrients and allows vitamin C to naturally cross cell membranes, optimizing its absorption.
This new form of vitamin C is called PureWay-C®.
PureWay-C ® has clinical studies that demonstrate its superiority in absorption and activity to other forms of vitamin C. PureWay-C® is more effectively maintained in human cells and with faster absorption 1,2.
This new form of vitamin C, which we can find in food supplements, consists of:
- Vitamin C: (L-ascorbic acid): from citrus fruits (orange, lemon, lime and tangerine).
- Lipid metabolites: from plant sources. They act as transporters of vitamin C, to increase its intestinal absorption and its distribution in tissues, entering cells more quickly, safely and effectively .
- Citrus bioflavonoids: compounds derived from species of the genus Citrus (orange, lemon, lime and tangerine), including: rutin, naringine, hesperidin, neohesperidin, naringenin, hesperitin and nomiline.
PureWay-C ® is a 100% natural, standardized and pure ingredient. Its safe and stomach-friendly, and is free of GMOs (genetically modified organisms), allergens, and animal products
.
Conclusions
PureWay-C ®, vitamin C associated with lipid metabolites and combined with flavonoids, outperforms other common forms of vitamin C in terms of absorption and retention in human cells, making it plausible that it may offer greater efficacy in its beneficial health properties.
