What is PhytoBerberina®?
Fitoberberine ® is a food supplement based on Berbevis ®, a phytosomal berberine extract with optimized absorption, and chromium.
Berbevis ® is a new food ingredient based on a Berberis aristata root extract standardized in berberine, with a version of the Fitosoma ® Technology, specific to berberine, which allows absorption up to 10 times greater than the same extract without this technology.
It is possible to improve and optimize the bioavailability, bioabsorption and tolerability of berberine.
Berbevis ® is currently supported by an in vitro study, a human pharmacokinetic study and a clinical study.
Berberine
Berberine is a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the isoquinoline alkaloid, highly concentrated in the roots, rhizomes and stem bark of Berberis species.
The genus Berberis includes more than 450-500 species, within the Berberidaceae family, and all of them represent the main natural source of berberine. Specifically, Berberis aristata, a shrub native to the Himalayas in India and Nepal known as Indian barberry, is a species that was already included in the pharmacopoeia of Ayurvedic medicine (India), whose
roots were used for their health benefits.

Pure berberine has poor bioavailability, like many natural compounds. For this reason, high doses of berberine are traditionally recommended, meaning low tolerability and possible undesirable gastrointestinal effects
