What is MicoVital® Cordiceps?
MicoVital® Cordiceps is a food supplement based on extract of the cordiceps mushroom (Cordyceps sinensis CS12). In this mushroom, instead of the fruiting body, we use mycelium, because that is where the active ingredients of interest are found, which is why it is the only fungus in which mycelium is currently authorized to be used as a dietary supplement. It contains polysaccharides known as beta-glucans and nucleosides (most notably cordycepin).
The product is available in two formats: capsules with the dry extract and bottles with the liquid extract.
Extraction is performed using innovative ultrasound-assisted technology (UAE), hot water, and alcohol; the latter is used for improved preservation. With this innovative extraction method, we maximize the bioavailability of the compounds of interest found in cordyceps.

MicoVital® Cordiceps – Dry Extract in Capsules In addition to cordyceps mycelium extract, it contains zinc, copper, and vitamin B12, which contribute to the normal function of the immune system and the protection of cells from oxidative damage. Vitamin B12 also helps reduce tiredness and fatigue, and together with copper, contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
MicoVital® Cordiceps – Liquid Extract Contains only the liquid extract of cordyceps in a convenient 50 ml bottle. It can be taken by adding it to coffee, tea, or smoothies, or directly sublingually.
What are medicinal mushrooms?
Although until a few years ago fungi were classified as vegetables, today they are considered to constitute an independent kingdom of equal rank as animals and plants. With a high nutritional profile of proteins, micronutrients and important bioactive compounds, they are an important nutritional tool for taking care of our health.
They represent an important source of biologically active polysaccharides in fruiting bodies or in some cases sterile heads. Most of these polysaccharides belong to the beta-glucan group; they have beta- (1—>3) bonds in the glucan backbone and additional beta- (1—>6) branch points that are responsible for the properties of these medicinal fungi.
Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE)
Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is an innovative extraction technique that significantly improves the performance of compounds of interest in the final extract.
During extraction, mechanical vibrations are sent through the liquid suspension that cause enormous pressure flows on or within small areas located in the liquid suspension.
This causes what is known as acoustic or ultrasonic cavitation, which forms small pressure bubbles on the surface of the mushroom cells present in the solvent; these eventually implode or “collapse”, causing an opening in the cell wall of the fungus and exposing the internal constituents to the solvent of the extract.
In this way, the UAE is similar to a key that “opens the treasure chest” enclosed within the walls of fungal cells, easily releasing compounds of interest and optimizing extraction.
Cordiceps
Coming from the Tibetan plateau and surrounding Himalayas, the cordiceps has been used in traditional Chinese medicine since 1700.
In Asia it is known as “winter grass” and “summer worm”. It is highly valued for its many beneficial health properties.
The wild cordiceps involves a very particular biological process to transform into a fungus: it infects an insect and destroys it inside until it kills it, parasitizes it and stays to live inside.
The normal thing is to find it cultivated, which not only makes its price more affordable, but also ensures a greater capacity to standardize its active ingredients.
Among the compounds of interest are: cordyceptic acid, glutamic acid, sterols, D-mannitol, polyamines, group B vitamins (B1, B2 and B12), vitamin E, vitamin K and up to 20 minerals such as sodium, zinc, iron, potassium, calcium, copper, manganese and selenium, among others.
