What is MicoVital® Maitake?
MicoVital® Maitake is a food supplement based on maitake mushroom extract (Grifola frondosa (Dicks. Fr) S.F. Gray), from which only the fruiting body containing the active ingredients is used. This mushroom has great nutritional value, as it is a rich source of bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans (β-(1,3)-(1,6)-D-glucans, D-grifon fraction and grifolan) with functional properties.
The product is available in two formats: capsules with the dry extract and bottles with the liquid extract.
For both types of organic maitake extract, only the fruiting bodies are used. They are extracted using ultrasound-assisted technology (UAE) and hot water and alcohol. With this innovative extraction method, we maximize the bioavailability of the key compounds found in lion’s mane.

MicoVital® Maitake – Dry Extract in Capsules In addition to the extract of maitake fruiting bodies, it contains zinc, copper, and vitamin B12, which contribute to the normal function of the immune system and the protection of cells from oxidative damage. Vitamin B12 also contributes to cell division. It also contains chromium, which maintains normal blood glucose levels.
MicoVital® Maitake – Liquid Extract Contains only liquid maitake extract in a convenient 50 ml bottle. It can be taken by adding it to coffee, tea, or smoothies, or directly sublingually.
What are medicinal mushrooms?
Although until a few years ago fungi were classified as vegetables, today they are considered to constitute an independent kingdom of equal rank as animals and plants. With a high nutritional profile of proteins, micronutrients and important bioactive compounds, they are an important nutritional tool for taking care of our health.
They represent an important source of biologically active polysaccharides in fruiting bodies or in some cases sterile heads. Most of these polysaccharides belong to the beta-glucan group; they have beta- (1—>3) bonds in the glucan backbone and additional beta- (1—>6) branch points that are responsible for the properties of these medicinal fungi.
Advantages of using fruiting bodies and sterile heads vs mycelium
In the MicoVital® line of medicinal mushrooms, we only use the fruiting bodies of fungi, using birch bark from the forests of Finland as a substrate. As an exception, we have the Chaga mushroom, which is collected from birch trees in the forests of Finnish Lapland and whose sterile heads are used, and the Cordiceps, which is a fungus that concentrates the compounds of interest in the mycelium.
Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE)
Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is an innovative extraction technique that significantly improves the performance of compounds of interest in the final extract.
During extraction, mechanical vibrations are sent through the liquid suspension that cause enormous pressure flows on or within small areas located in the liquid suspension.
This causes what is known as acoustic or ultrasonic cavitation, which forms small pressure bubbles on the surface of the mushroom cells present in the solvent; these eventually implode or “collapse”, causing an opening in the cell wall of the fungus and exposing the internal constituents to the solvent of the extract.
In this way, the UAE is similar to a key that “opens the treasure chest” enclosed within the walls of fungal cells, easily releasing compounds of interest and optimizing extraction.
Maitake
Maitake (Grifola frondose) is a fungus that forms large groups on tree stumps and roots and is widely used in traditional Asian medicine. It is common in forests in Asia, Europe and eastern North America.
Of all the functional mushrooms, maitake has the highest concentration of glutathione and contains a lot of l-ergothioneine, both of which are powerful antioxidants. In addition, it has high levels of polysaccharide compounds, as well as glutathione, an important intracellular antioxidant in our liver.
Why is MicoVital® Maitake extract so special?
- The growth and processing of maitake is controlled from the spores to the final product: the quality, transparency and safety of the product are very important when it comes to medicinal mushroom extracts.
- The Nordic Mushrooms seal guarantees that the mushrooms have been cultivated in a pure environment and that only organically grown fruiting bodies were used in the process on birch bark from the forests of Finland (with the exception of the cordiceps, where mycelium and chaga are used, which use the sterile heads of birch trees in Finland).
- We use innovative Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (EAU) technology, spring water and alcohol as a preservative for the final extract. With this novel extraction method, we are able to maximize the bioavailability of the compounds of interest found in maitake.
- Miron violet glass bottles are used, a unique type of glass container known as a biophotonic. Miron glass also filters harmful rays while filtering infrared, ultraviolet and violet lights, extending the lifespan and effectiveness of the product. Due to a particular mix of minerals present inside the Miron glass, this bottle also guarantees optimal nutrient preservation
